Earth Day

Earth Day Lesson

During my student teaching experience I taught Earth day through poetry and a BrainPop video, then followed it up with these two crafts. I baked salt dough necklaces for the students to paint and wear. Also, each student created an earth and wrote a pledge on how they would help the Earth.

Bulletin Board

Bulletin Board

Three bulletin boards I created during my student teaching. The first, "Our Love for Reading is Sprouting". was part of a reading unit we did on fluency. Students practiced reading books until nearly perfect and the parents were invited in for a reading celebration where students read their practiced books aloud. The second, "Welcome to Italy", was part of the Math Olympics being held. The third, "The More You Read The More You Know", was dedicated to Dr. Seuss's birthday and each student decorated their favorite Dr. Seuss book cover.

The 13 Colonies

The 13 Colonies 5th Grade Lesson

This was a lesson I designed for my 90 hours 5th grade class. Each student was given an investigation packet and told they were moving to the new world, but they needed to find the perfect place to settle based on their occupation. Students were assigned various jobs of the time period and given clues on where the perfect place to settle would be. Students were given a PPT, the map, moveable pieces, and their packet in order to investigate where to settle.

Storytelling

Native American Storytelling

This was a lesson I designed for my 90 hours 5th grade class. I made a fake campfire, had the sounds of night and a fire crackling playing in the background, and walked students through a brief PPT. After, I orally told students some stories. Students were then placed into groups of 4 and given a Native American story from a particular tribe. Students had 15 minutes to read and rehearse the story. After, students performed their stories orally back around the campfire for the rest of the class.

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games 7th Grade English

Working as an instructional assistant, I was given many opportunities to lead and conduct lessons/events. One unit helped pioneer was the 7th grade Hunger Games. The entire grade is placed into districts, reads the book, and is awarded different points throughout the week for various things like having homework or wearing glasses. At the end of the book, we put on a field day Hunger Games. Prior to classes receiving their district, we would have a reaping. I would dress as Effie Trinket (a character from the book) and place each 7th grade class into a district.
